“There’s not a lot to do except watching people swim”

How was the BHS Swimming Carnival through the perspective of those who did not participate? The Swimming Carnival is a tradition at Blackburn High School that takes place at Boroondara Sports Complex every year. Breaking from the “Friday tradition”, the carnival this year happened on a blazing Monday, 14th of February. The temperature reached up to 35 degrees that day and most of the students had fun splashing in the water with their friends. While the event was labelled “compulsory”, the students who did not want to participate had the choice of staying at home. There are, however, students who wished to spend the 14th of February with their friends and not worry about school work. We’ve interviewed those students and asked them about their opinions on the day; here are their responses:    “It was great!” Said Florence, a year 10 student.   Hard news: ‘Catastrophic injuries’: Swimmer dies after shark attack at Sydney beach- the age We can see that this is hard news because it reports on the first fatal shark attack in a long time in Sydney, which will have an impact on a large group of people and is needed to be reported urgently. The writing style is strictly objective and includes a lot of information since it is a concerning event open to analysis. The interviewees in this article are ambulances and witnesses and the images presented are of the surrounding area, not the incident itself.   Buzz and fuss over Blackburn’s new STEM center  By Quynh and Nicole The new STEM Center is coming around 2023, what are our students’ and teachers’ thoughts?  This Wednesday, we interviewed a teacher and a student at Blackburn High School about their thoughts and opinions on the soon to be Science, Technology,  Engineering and Mathematics Center of the school. As part of the Andrew’s Governments 1.1 billion dollar building initiative for schools, Blackburn High School community has fortunately received $9 million for the building of this STEM center; which consists of 14 high calibre science and technology classrooms to inspire both teachers and students at Blackburn.
